Hey hey, how you guys doing this lock off period? Working doubly hard? Yep that sounds like me and my wig. So I was watching one of my usual shows last week and thought to myself during this time everyone would want to be finding something to watch to keep their mind at ease as it is not exactly the best time , I know there is a few new tv shows on Netflix that I can’t get into cause I haven’t got Netflix, I know I’m behind on the times. However, I have 4 shows that I feel are relatable, funny and has interesting story line’s so you don’t get easily bored.
I love this show, it definitely gives me those ‘feels’ where it sometimes gives you the reflection of you. The story line centres around Issa Rae and her best-friend Molly mostly and they show the everyday struggle of black woman to be honest, their personal relationship and other relationships with their lovers/ boyfriends and dealing with genuine work issues that alot of women of colour face on a regular basis. I definitely have had a few awkward times that I could sit back and say yep that’s me, plus the music choices bangs. It pretty much has a Indie feel, and all the characters are someone in your clique, the characters are fleshed out, they’re not caricatures just real life people going through good days and bad. I think its on season 4 now, you have to watch from the beginning.
I was really surprised with this show cause Zendaya played the hell out of her character, from watching this she very much is versatile in the show. This show revolves around a 17 year old girl that has actually survived from an overdose and it’s following the aftermath of that affect with her mum and sister and the relationship with Jules. It actually follows all of the characters to be honest, but it is not a typical high school hierarchy system with the popular girls and boys with the same characters taking someones boyfriend or not being invited to a party, it really does delve into the dark side of the character Rues life with her losing her dad as-well, and her almost being on the edge of another overdose. There is alot of funny quirks in some of the characters, and their dialogues with each other actually stuns you for a second cause at times you don’t think that this could be high schoolers. The music again bangs and has its soulful point and modern mixes. Each character life is intriguing, and you feel invested in each person and their story behind why they are the way they are again it is like the day to day life, well some peoples day to day life on a ceiling, always upside down.It is aesthetically pleasing . I think it is a very well scripted show, I think season 2 is coming out soon not sure when but the full season 1 is out.
3. For Life
This is now become my favourite show, this is inspired by a man called Isaac Wright Jr’s life imprisoned, a man called Aaron Wallace he is in prison for a drug kingpin charge and he did not take the plea deal so we follow him through the episodes piecing more information together to overturn his conviction, also to mention that he became a lawyer and whilst doing all of this he helps fellow inmates with their convictions as-well. I’m not sure why I thought maybe I wouldn’t like it but this has become one of my favourites, it is well written and realistic. Umm yeah, that is pretty much about it. Its just clean cut to the point, great characters. Actually with the characters, he has a wife, who wanted a divorce but is weighing up the options on this, she is actually dating his best-friend, I know sticky. A 17 year old daughter and they all genuinely are fighting for his freedom, I like the show, I don’t want to spoil it.
This man is the only person besides Tommy (for those who know power) that can get away with murder I can not understand it. But if you haven’t watched You then you are missing out, no pun intended. This has got to be one of the quirkiest, weirdest murder that you sympathise with , even at the end of season 2 I can not understand it, this man knows no bounds for real, but I love the show aswell lol. It follows Joe he has a troubled upbringing and becomes fixated on love interests, and ends up stalking them pretty much to learn about their life and their friends, and has a huge transparent box in a basement of a library and a storage unit, not sure how he transported it but he did. The story actually has good twists and turns, you really are invested in Joe you want to see him succeed and its twisted. His little inner thoughts are funny and have a poetic pace to it, I swear just watch the first couple of episodes and you will think how many times has this man done this yet got away with it. again I don’t want to spoil it. Season two is out aswell.
Well that is the shows I have for now on my list, I can already think of two more, I’ll do another list at some point, what are you guys watching? Let me know I’l try and jump on the wave lol
Love and light,
