Miley Cyrus and her change in music like many others….
Hmm so we didn’t hear much from Miley Cyrus for a minute, I don’t really check for her, the last time I actually heard anything was the –
And after that I kind of zoned out from her.
I remember actually my friend asked me did I see the video of Miley Cyrus when she made that song ‘can’t stop’, it was the longest 3 minutes or however long it was of my life.
She recently made an appearance on the magazine Billboard. She looked very pretty and almost back to a restored Miley with maturity I give her that. However…oh it’s a big however, a lot of people were pissed off with what she said in her interview
(In reference to Kendrick Lamars ‘humble’ )
Show me somethin’ natural like ass with some stretch marks.” I love that because it’s not “Come sit on my dick, suck on my cock.” I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much “Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock” — I am so not that.”
“It’s easy, dude. When I want something, it’s fucking easy for me. But if anyone told me not to smoke, I would have not done it. It’s because it was on my time. I know exactly where I am right now. I know what I want this record to be. And not in the sense of manipulation…”
I think a lot of people are pissed off at the fact that Miley was seen in the light of using ‘black culture’ in order to advance in her career away from this ‘Hannah Montana’ image. Which she genuinely did, not a lot of people correlated her to Hanna Montana after she made her little break through with Hip Hop. Personally, the music she made I wouldn’t necessarily say it was Hip Hop, but whatever. Like I said I didn’t take much in with her but I did see her do small little bursts of break through like one picture she did, she had a cloth around her I believe she was naked and she had major backlash of her image being tarnished because of it but she just called it ‘art’. She reverted back real quick. I think she just didn’t know what turn to take, half of me still believes she still doesn’t know what turn to take.
Then the whole hair cut came and it was a go from there. Personally I think she actually wanted to break her innocent image but with the music industry, they can go way left really quickly which she probably was dragged into at full speed. The Hip Hop game comes in so many genres that she could of chosen more conscious rap from the JUMP, she chose rap that was selling the image of guns, the hoes, the money, towards younger teens, with the same ‘Hop on my dick’ spitting bars, babes, players change but certain bars remain the same. There are a lot of conscious rappers out there, my favourite being Lupe Fiasco, I’ve been a fan of him since my mid teens, ugh, although I don’t listen to his songs as much as I did. Do not get me wrong there are a lot of songs I like that the lyrics are straight trash but the beat is dope and the chorus makes you think of that song all day.
She also said that some of her fans might be a little scared of her, which she didn’t do anything to relieve this. She still had those same unimaginative outfits and props that were suggestive. She’s known for her country music/pop music, and if she felt that then why go to the other extreme extent by making herself even more provocative and there is nothing wrong with that, some women are empowered by their sex appeal. She could of stopped at any time right like she said “when I want something it’s fucking easy for me” I’m sure it would of been easy to say no even if the result was not what she wanted. Although the thing is, we don’t know what she could of said when she was with these rappers behind the scenes or these music producers, they could of said shut up and keep smiling, I don’t know. But I doubt it, she seemed to be a willing participant in selling a false image. We all know that wasn’t her and most of us was waiting on the day for her to say I’m not that person and now it’s happened you can’t be mad. She’s an example of a lot of artists that have moved genres. Look at Rihanna, look at her image before the good girl gone bad album.
It was all in the sales and I’m very sure she enjoyed the feeling of that money, I mean her people’s were happy enough right? The music industry is ruthless, it’s the next best thing. It’s like you almost need to sell out you’re own thoughts and ideas to create a buzz for these people, just go ahead and watch ‘Beyond the lights’ film, you’ve got to be ruthless at your own game and be an extraordinary talent, in order to be able to tell the people who write your checks ‘no’. I hope she’s moved on with her life, and maybe through this sort of backlash she’ll learn that people don’t just forget nor do they forgive so easily….but I hope the best for her and her future.
